The Brave Monkey Pirate: Reading and Activities!

Description:
In this video, Caleb Sheets reads the book The Brave Monkey Pirate by Hayes Roberts and gives a couple of activities to do with kids ages 3-8 (or even a little older).

Materials Needed for Activity:
·      Art supplies such as markers, crayons, glue, glitter, construction paper etc.
·      Items from your recycling bin (cardboard, or paper, etc.)
·      Kids with some great imagination!

Step by Step Guide to the Video for Parents/Guardians:
1.     The beginning of the video is simply me (Caleb) reading the book.
a.     If there are some places where I read a little too fast for the kids to look at the pictures, you can pause the video until they are ready to move on!
2.     After the reading of the book I give some specific instructions on what to do next.
3.     The child will be asked to go get something from their house that makes them feel the most brave
a.     At this point in the video I would pause the video to allow time for the child to go find their object.
b.    When they return with their object ask them why they specifically chose that object.
                                               i.     This could help you to better understand how much that object means to them or why they chose that object instead of anything else.
4.     Once the child has found the object, the video will announce that the children are going to be creating some creatures of their own that the Brave Monkey Pirate could have seen while sailing to find his magical rock.
a.     They can make literally anything at this point. I added this part because I wanted the kids to have the opportunity to create someone that they might find a little bit scary and have a little bit of fun in the process!
b.    Also, this could be a great way to find out what the child is scared of in real life.
                                               i.     It could bring up the chance to talk to them about that fear and why they might be afraid of it.
5.     All there is left to do is to make some of those creatures out of the materials listed earlier in this description!
6.     HAVE FUN!

Hopefully all of the people that get to see this video will be able to enjoy some time reading this book and making some scary creatures out of things they can find around the house!
