Description:
In this video, Caleb Sheets reads Chapter
1 in the book Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and gives a couple
of activities to do with kids ages 6-12 (or even a little older).
Materials Needed for Activity:
·
Paper (or a printed picture of a wizard’s robes)
·
Anything to color with (markers, colored
pencils, crayons, etc.)
·
Again a kid with a great imagination!
Step by Step Guide to the Video for Parents/Guardians:
1.
The beginning of the video is simply me
(Caleb) reading the first chapter of the book.
2.
After the reading of the book I give some
specific instructions on what to do next.
3.
The child will be asked to color or draw the
robes that they would want to wear as a wizard.
a.
Tell them to be as creative as possible!
These are robes they would want to wear, make them serious, silly, or however
they want!
b.
It might be helpful to print off a wizard
robes if you can find some so they can just color them in!
i.
As the child is coloring, ask them why they
are coloring the robes a certain color because it could help them to explain
what is running through their head for a design!
4.
One the child is done coloring the robes,
they are then asked to think of what animal they would want to be able to
change into.
a.
I recommend sitting down and talking to them
about this, it could take some more time if you ask more in depth questions
about it!
i.
Also, if you want, you could look up the
child’s animal on the internet and read some interesting facts about that
animal as well!
ii.
It could be a fun learning experience for
you child!
5.
HAVE FUN!
Hopefully all of the people that get to see this video
will be able to enjoy some time listening to the first chapter of this book,
drawing and coloring your wizards robes, and thinking about which animal you
would want to turn into!
