This book “Rain Brings Frogs” by Maryann Cocca-Leffler is written for ages 4-8. Narrated by Taylor B.
After watching me read the book, you can them your own origami jumping frogs as a fun arts and craft activity. The book fares well for younger children, though the activity is best suited for children on the older end of that range, around 7-9 years old. For households with more than one child, the book + activity combo can appeal to children of various ages, with the end product of the jumping frog being fun for all ages!
As for items needed for this activity:
- Any square piece of paper
o Preferably thin (not construction paper) with a length and width of 5”
That is all! Folding origami works best on flat surfaces like a table. Having patience helps too! Upon finishing the jumping frog, using a bowl or other object for the frog to “jump” into can serve as a great game to see who can get the most frogs (if you make multiple) into the bowl or who can get their frog in first.
For visual learners, the video I posted should be all you need to create the origami jumping frog. If there is some confusion as to the steps, I have attached a step-by-step guide of written instructions that the Royal Institute created which follows the same way I folded my frogs as well.
