Let's Make...RAIN!

Let's Make...RAIN!

Grades Kindergarten-2:

Introduction: Creating what is happening in the atmosphere is exciting! After reading Rain, you learned about where the rain comes from and how it circulates. The water on our earth is the only water we get, so we are able to learn about how it goes through the stages.

Task: For this activity, you get to create your own clouds and make rain. Each student should be able to create their own atmosphere from the activity. They can use this knowledge to see how when it rains, what is happening inside the clouds outside. The shaving cream in this activity represents the clouds, the water in the glass represents the lakes or large bodies of water, and then the food coloring represents the new rain that is forming out of the clouds. Remember to use your creativity and that there is no right or wrong way!

Step-by-step Instructions:
·        Click on the video listed under ‘Video:’ to start playing the book. The book is being read to your student.
·        Have your student read through the list labeled, ‘Helpful Links:’, to better help them understand how the earth circulates rain.
·        Now, begin to set up your student’s project. Below are the instructions with pictures also.

·        First, you will want to set up your glass, food coloring, shaving cream, and warm water.

·        You will want to fill your glass between halfway to ¾ full. I have learned that halfway works best.

·        Next you will want to do a thin layer of shaving cream on the top of the water.

·        You will then want to drop the food coloring in on top of the shaving cream. I did about 5-10 drops.

You will then need to wait a few seconds; then the food coloring will start to drop down.

·        Eventually, the food coloring will fall down and create the sense of rain.
