Step-by-step instructions:
- Click on the video to start playing the book. The book is being read to your student.
- Have your student read through the list labeled, ‘helpful links,’ to better help them understand potential topics to use for their candidate’s campaign.
- Now, your student should be able to begin the development of their poster (Example is pictured on the first page).
- Be sure to keep in mind the current state of politics in today’s society (Please refrain from any media sources that may be harmful to other student’s views and/or ideas).
- As you complete this lesson, have your student hold their own campaign and ask them what they learned during the process, and if they believe that they could potentially run for a campaign in the future!
The Book
Introduction: Young scholars, now is the time to begin wishful thinking with the upcoming presidential elections this year. After reading Duck for President, you have learned the various levels of campaigns, and how they contribute to how our elections today. Each candidate must go through a series of steps in order to determine the best outcome for these elections.
Task: For this activity, you will be in charge of developing your own presidential candidate. Each student should build this individual based upon how they view the president, with a relationship to the information you learned in the text. After following the steps needed to research more details on how to run for president, you will be tasked to make a campaign poster. As you create your masterpiece, be mindful of your creativity, as you are creating this poster to best portray your candidate. Listed below is a variety of potential items you may need during this process. Remember, there is no right or wrong way of putting together your poster!
