Bartholomew and the Oobleck: Book Reading and

Watch the video below, and then make your own Oobleck!

Bartholomew and the Oobleck by Dr. Seuss

After reading Dr. Suess’ book, Bartholomew and the Oobleck, a fun activity to do with the kids is to make the Oobleck in real life. Oobleck is very easy to make and extremely fun to play with. It isn’t a liquid nor a solid, it acts as a liquid when it is poured but then acts like a solid when force is applied to it. It’s super easy to make and only requires 2 ingredients:

Ingredients:
Corn starch
Water
(optional) food coloring

Directions:
1.  Pour 1 cup of water into a bowl
2.  Add 1.5-2 cups of corn starch to the bowl

Mix it up! (you can use a spoon if you wish, but I recommend just using your hands right away)

Lastly add food coloring if you wish!

Once it is mixed, push on it with your open hand, what happens?  Now let lay your hand gently on the surface, how does it change?  Pick it up a handful and try to hold it in your hand, what happens?

Have fun!
