Dora the Explorer "A Day at the Beach"

Description:
In this video, Caleb Sheets reads the book A Day at the Beach with Dora the Explorer and gives a couple of activities to do with kids ages 3-8 (or even a little older).

Materials Needed for Activity:
·         Things that you would take to the beach (beach towel, sunscreen, shovel and pail, etc.).
·         Things to make lemonade (lemons, sugar, water, water pitcher, ice)
o   You can use lemonade powder if you want to! It’s great as well!
·         Kids that need to blow off some energy and are willing to search for things!

Step by Step Guide to the Video for Parents/Guardians:
1.      The beginning of the video is simply me (Caleb) reading the book.
a.      If there are some places where I read a little too fast for the kids to look at the pictures, you can pause the video until they are ready to move on!
2.      After the reading of the book I give some specific instructions on what to do next.
3.      The child will be asked to do a scavenger hunt to look for certain items that you would take to the beach.
a.      At this point in the video I would pause the video to allow time for the child to go find each of those items.
b.      If you want the activity to take longer, make them bring each item to you individually so they have to come get you each time they find an item.
                                                              i.      When they bring an item encourage them and if they don’t know where an item might be, give them some guidance on where to look. That could be a lot of help for them.
4.      Once the child(ren) have found all of the items on the scavenger hunt, play the video again. They will be asked to help pack all of these items to take to the beach.
a.      Find something to put all of the items in such as a big bag and help them arrange the items in the bag.
                                                              i.      If you don’t have a bag big enough, you can simply organize all the materials, so it is easy to pack in the vehicle.
5.      Once the bag is packed for the beach, the video will tell the kids that they are being rewarded with lemonade.
                                                              i.      Go into the kitchen with them and help them make the lemonade!
1.      If you don’t want to make lemonade, you can make any other drink that the kids would like. I just would make sure and reward them for their hard work! They did such a great job!
6.      HAVE FUN!

Hopefully all of the people that get to see this video will be able to enjoy some time reading this book, going on a scavenger hunt, packing, and making some lemonade!
